I’m sure it’s happened to you just as it has to me. You copy and paste some text in from the web or an email message and it comes in with leading spaces – on evey line. There are lots of ways to remove the problem starting with hitting the delete key way too many times. Stop already!
There is, however one very smart way to do it without getting a repetitive strain injury. Select the lines of text and press Control + E to center the text. With the text still selected press Control + L to left align it and voila! the spaces are gone.
You are my HERO!! Thank YOU!! :o)
This is an awesome tip. You saved me a lot of time.
This works great!! I had a 2700 cell column in Excel that had leading spaces in some of the cells. I copied to a Word document, used this method and pasted back in Excel. VIOLA!! It worked!!
I am using Word 08 for Mac and it does not work…any other suggestions?
this is the best Word suggestion I have ever seen.
Amazing!! That’s all I can say.
Thanks for this!
Hello, In addition to paying thanks for the above one, I would like to ask, how to translate text in different languages using Microsoft Word?
Not working..
Helen,
This is going to save me so much time editing long documents!
Thank you!
Gina
Fantastic trick!!!! Thanx heaps!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Smashwords’ “auto-vetter” rejected an anthology I submitted and, come to find out, the longest story was full of these vexing little extra spaces I never even noticed. I would have spent hours fixing it by hand. The book has been resubmitted and hopefully will pass.
Legendary!! I had no idea that you could do this and you’ve saved me ages!
Thank you!!!!
Sorry this did not work.
I have attached the text???

the use of technology
Hi Joe
I think your problem is that your lines all have returns or paragraph markers at the end of them – in this case you need a different process to fix the problem. You need to find and replace paragraph markers – Will post a solution in the next few days for you.
Helen
Thanks a lot Helen. It saved a lot of redundant unnecessary work which took lots of time..Hugs!!
You’re awesome, Lady!
That’s a brilliant tip, saved me a lot of effort pasting a list of names in to Active Directory!
